Took this photo of flower with a camera that’s far from instant, which is a 1971 Canon FTb but I do really enjoy all of the colour combination and I was testing the teleconverter I bought from Japan with next to nothing, loaded with fresh Kodak Gold 200
A YouTube short of cracking a brand new Kodak Ektar H35N camera open and shooting the first few frames featured in this article is now up: youtube.com/shorts/n4Fod03…
Lomography just launched a new Kickstarter project for their Nour Triplet V 2.0/64 Bokeh Control Art Lens.
They reached nearly halfway towards the $100K goal in the few hours since going live.
Nour is available for full-frame mirrorless mounts (Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Sony E) and comes with bokeh control, drop-in aperture plates and a modern helicoid focusing mechanism.
This 64mm lens has an aperture range of 𝒇2.0-𝒇16 and a 44mm image circle. Its closest focusing distance is 0.6m/2’ and it uses a 55mm filter thread.
Perhaps the most interesting feature is the bokeh control slider that can alter the look of the out-of-focus specular highlights between “bubble” (defined ring with translucent middle) and “soft” (feathered edges). The slider has no steps, so if you are planning to shoot a video, you can transition between the phases seamlessly. In the photo below (model: instagram.com/oooooooooooo… by: instagram.com/calvincffu) the control is in the middle for the “classic” setting.
Price (early bird):
Black aluminum finish — $335
Brass finish — $410

Analogue Wonderland has grown significantly since opening its doors back in 2018. Today, it’s adding a new offering: refurbished vintage film cameras by Kamerastore.
We still stay in touch, but he is now way too busy to create long-form content for each new milestone his business reaches. Not a problem: it’s really my job to do this. 😅
Analogue Wonderland’s previous expansions were about building out its film lab (story: analog.cafe/r/analogue-won…) and printing service (which I got to review here: analog.cafe/r/analogue-won…). Their newest collaboration with the well-known Finish camera repair facility completes the circle.
You can now get your film and camera at Analogue Wonderland and then develop and print your film at the same shop.
Though I’ve never used Kamerastore’s services, I have followed their journey for as long as this blog has been alive. They’ve grown from an initiative to save the decaying photographic equipment from across the EU, to building a huge shop, to running a one-of-a-kind camera technician certification program. They are the real deal.
I’m not sure if my last comment went through, but I would love to win the I-2! Here is a pretty important photo, from when my partner and I found out we were having a child.
I’ve never considered using the flash with an open shutter on SX-70 (even though I advocated for doing this on other cameras: analog.cafe/r/a-simple-gui…).
I figure the darkness forced your SX-70 to open the shutter to 𝒇8 and you could probably use your flash’s guide number to get the exposure just right? That’s what I want to do now. 😁
Peel-apart film is a unicorn these days. I really wish it was more available. Have you considered One Instant? They’re very expensive but I’ve heard good things about it and they apparently improved their shopping costs.
I recently have been trying to figure out a way to use flash with my sx-70 in an effort to stem the desire for an I-2. I shot this with off camera flash unsynced utilising the long exposure time of sx-70 in the dark a single handhelf weak flash was able to get this and I love this portrait of my friend. I love using the sx-70 for capturing moments of life and being able to do a quick and dirty scan with the polaroid app and just give them away. But I have definitely at times felt limited by the sx-70 lack of flash though the lens is absolutely incredible for being 50+ years old design.
