  • All Photographic Film Sold Today

The Wikipedia article is actually more useful.

    Two examples:

It shows that Flic Elektra, SFL A and Washi X are all respooled Kodak Aerocolor IV.

Similarly, Lomo Earl Grey is actually Fomapan 100.

So although there might be 270 brands being sold at the moment, the number of different films is markedly lower.

Why pay more for somebody’s marketing when you can often find the same emulsion cheaper elsewhere?

  • Aside from supporting people and businesses you like, rebranded films may be sold where the original emulsion is not. Respooled films can also sell for less because they may have a different logistic path and margins. For example, Kosmo Foto Mono is cheaper than Fomapan 100 here in Canada. Some films that are commonly thought as straight rebrands in fact are not. For example, see the comparisons of all daylight 800 colour films (and the easily recognizable differences between them): analog.cafe/r/all-the-iso-…
