I’ve just removed all the Twitter references on this website. The bird app is called something else now and I don’t know how to mention it here without cringing.
Feels like the end of an era.
I met the blog’s first-time readers and contributors on Twitter, many of whom I consider friends or favourite acquaintances. I used the #believeInFilm hashtag a lot. (About it: analog.cafe/r/believeinfil…)
I really like how the offshoots of the community I love are blossoming here and on Mastodon. But some folks I miss are still neither here nor there, and they may never use my favourite apps.
Ultimately, I think it’s for the best. The convenience of finding and following the discourse with everyone I know/don’t know in a single app isn’t worth the monopolistic environment this creates. And I am not convinced ActivityPub or any social networking protocol is an answer — at least not yet.
Plus, designing, coding, and nourishing the community on this blog is loads of fun. I love it. ❤️
